Message to the Harvard community on the crisis in Japan
All of us have watched with profound concern and sadness as Japan has confronted the devastating events of recent days. I know I speak for the whole of the Harvard community in expressing deep sympathy to those who have suffered the loss of family and friends, who have seen their homes destroyed, and who continue to face uncertainty and danger.
The Harvard Japan Society, in cooperation with the Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies and the Program on U.S.-Japan Relations, is organizing “Harvard for Japan Week,” a series of events that will begin on Monday (March 21), immediately after spring break. Our thoughts remain very much with our colleagues and friends in Japan and with everyone who has felt the tragic consequences of the terrible earthquake and tsunami. Spanning three centuries, Harvard has had a special relationship with Japan, and we are proud of our shared traditions and enduring ties. May we all find ways to help Japan cope and recover in this unusually difficult time.
