Statement from President Faust on Haiti Relief Fund for Workers at Harvard
Nearly two weeks have passed since a massive earthquake devastated Haiti. Rescue operations have yielded to recovery efforts, and the work of rebuilding Haiti and healing and supporting its citizens and survivors will carry on for years.
In the meantime, I would like to share with you information about how the Haiti earthquake has affected members of our own community. At least 75 men and women who work for Harvard have been personally touched by the disaster. They are coping with the loss of loved ones and struggling to assist friends and relatives left without homes.
The University has launched a relief fund for our colleagues who have so profoundly felt the impact of the events of Jan. 12.
The fund has been established with contributions from the University and the Harvard University Employees Credit Union. Details about how to donate online, in person, or by mail can be found on the Credit Union site, and information about eligibility and how to apply for financial assistance is available on HARVie.
The outpouring of concern and support from so many in the Harvard community has been very moving — whether in the form of teams of doctors delivering care directly, students organizing a benefit concert, or individuals offering personal contributions. Through this fund, I hope that you will consider joining me in offering tangible support to the men and women working among us who have been touched by this tragedy.
