Broad Institute launched

Harvard, M.I.T., and the Whitehead Institute announced June 19 that they would embark on a major new research collaboration to use genomics to search for cures for human diseases. The collaboration will be known as the Broad Institute, named for lead donors Eli and Edythe Broad, who pledged $100 million over 10 years to support the Institute's work. At the announcement ceremony, Eli Broad (left) listened as President Lawrence H. Summers spoke about the new collaboration.
