Building an AI Slackbot to tutor students – Sharad Goel
Sharad Goel, Professor of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School of Government, built a custom AI Slackbot, “StatGPT,” to encourage students to learn through interactions with the AI, rather than it providing direct answers. After testing this tool in his statistics course, they examined the data and surveyed the students finding that they felt the tool was supportive, easy to access, and available any time. Goel is now trying to roll this tool out into a variety of other types of courses. This approach can be beneficial in subjects that require active problem-solving, showing how AI can guide but not replace the learning process.
